Fireman Jeff

Our kids came to us last week and said "there is a fire on the stairs". We quickly went to the stairs, and there was no fire. The kids were not at the stairs, they were already at the window in their room and they said "Those stairs". Diagonally behind our house we could see flames and the smoke getting thicker and thicker. We don't really worry about fires here because all the houses are made out of concrete, but it was an empty lot in the middle of our neighborhood. The neighbors that have homes connected to that lot were using there pilas (picture below) to fill bucket and attempting to put it out. Well, Jeff grabbed a bucket and headed over. He was there a while and returned for our long water hose.

Funny side note: We have a friend Juan that lives next to us and He is attending University 3 hours away, so he comes home on long weekends and holidays. It happened to be a long weekend, and Juan was home. He saw Jeff helping and he yelled "Hello what's up" and Jeff yelled "Juan WHAT did you DO!!" Juan started saying "I don't smoke...I didn't do anything", and Jeff said "well you came home yesterday and look what happens." They laughed and Juan began working.

Once the fire was somewhat "under control", Jeff and Juan jumped down into the smoldering lot, and yes Jeff had his fire gear....his shorts, t-shirt, flip flops and a garden hose. In a moment it looked like his toe was smoking...Juan looked a little panicked and yelled "throw some water on it". Jeff did and you know the sound when you put water on a really hot pan...well, when he did, there was sizzling and smoke. Juan was like "are you insane", but Jeff says it looked like it was his toe, but it was from the ground underneath. Jeff made it back home an hour and a half later amazed at how long and strong coconuts burn and he was drenched from firefighting and a water war with the neighbors afterward. The strange part of the story is that the fire department was called and to our neighbors surprise they never showed up.

As if it wasn't hot enough, there you go jumping into fires.

If that doesn't warrant a day at the beach, I don't know what does.

Have some shrimp for me.

Love you guys.

I have always been of the belief that there is nothing Jeff Gearhart could not do. I didn't necessarily think about fire fighting, but I'm not surprised in the least!

So guess what my Jeff's new project is ? (pause)

The Fort Portal church of Christ Fire Brigade. I kid you not. He has been buying fire gear, equipment and is in the market for an actual fire truck. He is going to train our guys at church in firefighting (he fought forest fires in the olden days:-))
I guess he should hit you up for some super-duper fire fighting flip-flops.

Fireman Jeff...there is more than one of you! (which is kinda scary...with all due respect.)

Hey Amy!!!
Just wanted to let you know we are all still here and doing well. We have not blogged with you for a bit, and I wanted to let you know I prayed for you today.

Jason and I have been reading Cheyrl and Jeff's blogs the last few months...of which I love! I have never met her, but Jeff was in my AIM class. Anyways, it made me smile to see her post on your blog and remember at how connected we all are.

Have a great day!

We returned to the states for 2 weeks. I found out my younger brother was leaving for Iraq. Sorry I wasn't able to get on-line while I was gone, but I enjoyed you comments.

Heather - Jeff is my hero too:) And while in the state we got to watch an episode of Heroes (Which was awesome)

Lisa - You know Jeff, Jake Baur has nothing on him

Sarah - Could you and Lisa come visit this summer?

Cheryl - I think our Jeff's share a common spirit. You comment was so funny. It is so good to hear from you.

Hello M. Harris :) Good to hear from you. Thank you for your prayers. I am glad it is a small world, and I think I know some of the most amazing people in it.

Jeff
Thanks for running in when others run out! One of the things that I have always appreciated about you is that you think of others. It's automatic.
I've got to get me some of those flip-flops!
